Hi,
Are you using the actual Notes 8.o or 8.0.1 client?
If so, there is a way for you to change the color of unread messages to red. on a particular client by editing the css file in the file Notes.css
If you are using 802, it's packaged in a jar file and thus not as editable.
In Notes 8.5 we revised the icons so that you can much more easily tell read/unread messages using the icons. We have had a great deal of positive comment about it.
In Notes 8.5.1 we'll have a preference in "Fonts and colors" where each user can change unread messages to the color red.
Last, you can have this person use the "non-java" template -- have them hold down the CtRL + ALT key at the same time and the old (non-java) version of the template will open. (this works in any of the versions).
Hope that helps. you don't want him to go to Outlook because unread messages in Outlook are also black bold, so he still won't be happy.
